And so it begins. Don't think Kal has ever had to deal with a gun before X3

So who do you think is gonna win? Kal is younger, more agile, and ruthless....and grandpa is bigger and has a gun X"D. It's a toss up >__>

-------------

So I don't count it as being the next day until I go to bed so in my head it's still Friday >__>;;

Haha thanks for reading everybody! <3

Grandpa's not messing around, Kalverick!

My money's on grandpa technically winning, with Kal being forced to retreat--I feel like we haven't seen the last of him!

He is absolutely messing around. He should've fired no later than the instant Kalverick paused from discovering the bags. Now the next panel is likely to be him getting stabbed.

I agree with you! He should've just shot him instantly--it's always when they want to get some name calling in that they end up losing their upperhand! X"D

I think they need to work this out peacefully because I don't want to see either one of them lose! >_<

...You're right. o_o I do have a soft spot for Kal now, even though he's completely evil. XD

Hahaha but we know there is no "working out it peacefully" whenever Kalverick is involved X"D

LOL whenever I hear someone say that about Kalverick I can't help but smile!

Yeah, but how many rounds does that gun have? He's already shot it once.

I think, either the snake in the grass will assume the thing can fire more than once, and retreat, bring news of this terrifying new weapon to the serpents, or the grandpa will find out that swords don't have a reload time.
...then the snake in the grass will return without having completed his mission, but with a working example of this new weapon.

That's what I thought, too: If Grandpa has a 'repeater', then Kalverick has literally brought a knife to a gun fight. If not, then Grandpa can either try to bludgeon Kal with it, if he doesn't have any other moves. Otherwise he has a problem.

This may be Kal's first experience having an opponent with a gun, however I could be wrong, but I don't think guns are new to serpent kind.

On an earlier page, we were told that guns were new to this world, and would be news to the serpents.

Granted, it was in the commentary, and many authors operate by the rule that until it shows up in the main text, not the meta-text, it's not canon.

Haha yes! I'm so glad that my little fun fact is remembered even if vaguely! I do kinda operate by the not canon until it shows up in comic rule.... buuut certain things I wll say in the author comments and those who read those get a little extra nugget haha. That's what I think anyway xDD.

But indeed! Even amongst humans, guns aren't that common yet!

All very very valid points! I think Kal is pretty desperate not to fail this mission what with all the failure going on recently heh... the next page will be preetty telling I can say that!

But this terrifying new weapon is definitely something the bosses back home would want to know about!

Oof, I dunno, I think Kal's gonna win this one since the old man just missed! That doesn't look like a quick reload type gun...

But Kal is definitely gonna learn from this encounter, and that'll be a problem for sure for his next target.

Tsk tsk, Kal, bringing a knife to a gun fight. I mean, he didn't know it was a gun fight, but STILL. It'll be interesting to find out what THIS particular invention has in store for him! I'm torn up over wanting him to get just a teeeensy bit shot. xD

Whoops, foiled again. I cannot imagine why Kalverick thought this would actually work, given that he did clearly track Shera here. Honestly, why on earth would she stay here after what she'd been through? Even if Gramps is a surprise, he really ought to have given her more credit. It's only common sense. Tsk, tsk.

At least in this case, calling Kalverick a beast and a monster isn't entirely wrong. But there's a whole lot of serpents that I can think of that absolutely do not deserve to be called such names. It's just sad to me to think that this man would probably have this kind of treatment for any serpent he saw, not just reserve it for the ones out to kidnap and murder his granddaughter. Then again, he'll likely never have the chance to meet any others, so I can't blame him for his prejudices.

Gramps, if you're going to fire a gun, aiming first would help. Try to hit him next time.

My money is still on what it was back when we first knew this confrontation was an inevitable thing. I still think the most likely outcome is Kalverick gets shot, but survives, and makes it back home to convey the news about guns and incite mass panic and anger and probably start a war. That seems about right for this comic.

The composition of this page is great. I love the progression of the first three panels, and down at the bottom of the page, the switch from seeing Grandpa's eye to the gun firing works fantastically well. It's another page with action in it, which I suspect won't be going away next page, and it's conveyed really well. I like how the story's slowly adding in more action sequences without losing any of the emotional core that its established.

And it's so nice to see human eyes again. Nice... and jarring. I'm so used to serpents that the color's strange!

Haha yeeea...missing that shot may have been veery costly >__>

He does lump all serpents together buuuut serpents kinda lump all humans together. Everyone's generalizing and that's a dangerous place to be! :'D

Thank you for that wonderful feedback! Yea action scenes are getting more common haha...and that' probably won't change >__>. but the emotion is still very important part! LOL jarring colorful eyes X"D.... it is pretty jarring. Someone on DA said they were "peculiar" X"DD. Colors....imagine that X'D

I'd assume he fired a warning shot first to show he means business, but hard to say.

I'd say the Grandpa's got more motivation because he has someone he has to protect and I think that makes a difference.
My plot instinct is telling me otherwise though :|
